Lizzie Borden House

Lizzie Borden lived here at 92 and 2nd Street with her father Andrew Borden and stepmother, Abby. However, the events of August 4th 1892 have continued to fascinate those with an interest in the criminal, the macabre – and the paranormal. The case is a part of American popular culture with the case being depicted in various films, theatre productions, literary works, and even folk rhymes. An episode of the long-running show, Supernatural, was even based on the case.

What we do know is that someone brutally murdered Andrew and Abby here with an axe or hatchet, with both suffering sustained blows to the head. Lizzie was suspected, arrested, tried – but found not guilty and cleared. She lived out her life as a resident of Fall River, until her death in 1927. And the debate as to her innocence and guilt still continues. As do the reports of something lingering behind at the property. Some claim this to be one of the most haunted buildings in Massachusetts.

The apparition of woman has been seen in the basement, which some claim to be Lizzie herself. Objects move. Lights turn off and on of their own accord. Doors are heard to open and close. Disembodied footsteps pace the floors, voices echo in rooms, as do the sounds of a phantom cat. Cold spots are also reported.
